It is an insult to say I spent $30k a month on wine... it was far more
Johnny Depp on booze, drugs and blowing millions of dollars
JOHNNY Depp has poured scorn on claims he spent $30,000 a month on wine – saying it was much more.
The star, who recently sparked concerns over his health after being pictured looking gaunt, also spoke about his drug misuse, revealing he was once so high he asked a bouncer to knock him out.
Depp opened up about his life as he battles his former managers in an increasingly bitter war over his lost multi-million dollar fortune.
He was interviewed by Rolling Stone magazine while staying in London surrounded by “two equal piles of tobacco and pot”.
After asking the interviewer if he didn’t mind the drugs, Depp said: “Well, let’s drink some wine first.” The session continued for 72 hours.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star spoke about his use of hallucinogenic quaaludes and admitted abusing a bootleg version of the drug. He said: “They’re made with just a little bit of arsenic or strychnine – so the high was far more immediate.”
Once, Depp, 55, was so out of it on “ludes” he asked a Florida bouncer to punch him “just for kicks”. He said: “You either wanted to smile and just be happy with your pals, or f***, or fight.”
ABUSE
During the interview, Depp, who described disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein as a “bully” also discussed his abuse of alcohol.
In his legal battle against The Management Group for allegedly defrauding him and mismanaging his money, they claimed he spent $30,000 (£22,600) a month on wine.
He said: “It’s insulting to say I spent $30,000 on wine, because it was far more.”
They also alleged the actor spent $3million to blast his late friend, writer Hunter S Thompson’s ashes out of a specially made cannon.
He said: “By the way, it was not $3million to blast Hunter out of the f ****** sky, it was $5million.”
The actor also discussed suffering depression after his divorce from actress Amber Heard, 32, last year.
He said: “I was as low as I believe I could have gotten. The next step was, ‘You’re going to arrive somewhere with your eyes open and you’re going to leave with your eyes closed’. I couldn’t take the pain...”
He says he then went on tour with his band, Hollywood Vampires, and started writing a memoir on an old typewriter, like Thompson. He said: “I poured myself a vodka in the morning and started writing until the tears filled my eyes and I couldn’t see the pages any more.”
