May gets her way but split Remains

-

TWO years ago, Leave campaigners claimed quitting the EU was about restoring the sovereignty of the UK Parliament. Now we see that this was just another lie.

The shocking truth is that Theresa May’s government, with the support of leading Brexiteers, is refusing to allow Parliament a meaningful vote at the end of negotiations.

This means we have no say on the final deal. We will have to accept whatever deal the Government ends up with – too bad if it’s not what we were promised, or worse than the deal we currently have.

All of us should be concerned at this attack on British Parliamentary democracy. Tell your MP.

Kevin Sullivan, Swansea

Many Labour voters like myself voted to leave the EU. Everyone keeps talking about democracy, but people voted for Brexit which means leaving the single market and customs union. Remainers go on about a hard or soft Brexit, but out means out, end of. If we sink we sink, but I think we will do well despite all the scaremongering by Remainers. We are being weakened by MPs moaning about a second referendum. We must unite and tell the EU what we want.

If ever we needed proof of how gutless and self-serving Tories are, their latest show of rebellion proves it. The so- called Remain “rebels” can see our country is heading for some kind of disaster, yet their main concern is survival of the Tory Party and the salving of the Brexiteers’ egos.

This latest vote is another blow to the integrity of politicians who cannot get any lower in public esteem. I fear younger generations have a dismal future ahead of them.

Thousands of Mirror readers voted to Leave and if the vote happened again we would do the same. We get fed up being told how wrong we are. Most working-class voters have had enough of unlimited immigration in our towns and cities. The UK can’t cope with the increase in population, so why don’t the Government, opposition parties and political experts admit this? We are not all on the extreme right, but we see what’s going on.

Once again, the so-called Tory rebels failed to vote against the Government when it looked like their jobs were on the line.

Typically, the Tories have demonstrated the only people they care about are themselves. The rest of us can go to hell in the collective Brexit handcart. To quote the great Nye Bevan, “What is Toryism? Nothing but organised spivvery?”

Steve Cox, Tonna, West Glamorgan

It has now been two years since the country took the momentous step and voted to get out of the clutches of Brussels bureaucrats. In this time our PM has achieved virtually nothing to get us out, while continuing to send more money and promising to hand over untold billions more to the EU. Meanwhile, ministers have spent millions travelling back and forth to Brussels. The only way to leave is to leave immediately – no more money, no conditions, no debate and no votes.
