Dad killed mum when I was 8... and told me to make it look like a suicide

A SON yesterday told how his killer dad tried to force him and his brother to help cover up their murdered mother’s death as suicide.

Dale Barrett was just eight when he witnessed dad Anthony Wayne Mundy strangling mum, Janine Mundy, 34.

Evil Mundy, then 39, was jailed for life for the murder in 2003. Dale, now 23, has spoken out for the first time as his dad prepares for a parole bid.

He said he was “haunted” by the killing at the family home in Camborne, Cornwall, and won’t forgive his father.

Dale and his 10-year-old brother were woken by their mum’s screams and saw dad strangling her. After the killing, Mundy dressed his wife and used a climbing rope to suspend her body over the stairs. Dale said: “The picture in my head is when I walked down stairs and she was hung and she had all bruising (on her neck). “He asked us for help because he just wanted to stage it as a suicide.

“He dressed her in her clothes and even asked us to help lift the body over the stairway to hang her. We said no.” Mundy then told Dale, who had already phoned police, to tell detectives his mum had killed herself. But the brave eight-year-old refused and pointed the finger at his dad, leading to his arrest. Dale told the BBC he hates his dad for “destroying my whole family”.

Mundy was arrested on suspicion of attempting to drown his wife days before. But he was released on bail.
