A Sepp too far for FIFA hypocrites

-

FIFA have fined Swiss pair Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka over their goal celebrations against Serbia.

The pair, of Albanian Kosovar descent, used their hands to make a two-headed eagle – an Albanian nationalist symbol – which is deemed antagonistic towards Serbia.

Meanwhile, FIFA turned a blind eye to Vladimir Putin inviting Sepp Blatter to the World Cup party, despite the disgraced former head of their body being banned from all football activities for six years for unethical conduct in 2015.

Instead of carpeting Russia and demanding Blatter be sent home, FIFA says it has “taken note” of his attendance.

So have we. And it raises this question. What’s the more insulting gesture: Shaqiri (above) and Xhaka turning their hands into a double-headed eagle or Blatter throwing two fingers at every football fan in the world, whom he duped by running an empire built on kickbacks, bribes and corruption?

ANYONE having doubts about whether knowledgeable women should be allowed to commentate on, or analyse, a football game surely saw them disappear on Monday morning. When Jason Cundy (left) said females should be banned from doing so on the grounds that their voices are too highpitched. This from a man whose screeching rants have made many a listener switch off talk Sport. Suddenly there was only one side to take. The one that prize tool Cundy wasn’t on.
