GREENE FOR GO AFTER FIVE-YEAR WAIT

- BY ALEX SPINK

DAI GREENE rolled back time to end his five-year injury hell and return to the top of the podium.

The former world 400m hurdles champion (right) spoke of his pride after recapturing the British title.

“I had double hernia surgery in 2013 and had to have subsequent hernia surgeries in 2014 and 2015,” said Greene, who became 2011 world champion in Daegu.

“What kept me out in 2017 was related to my surgeries and I had to have six months off from running.

“Last year I didn’t race at all. It’s been a very slow process and a long time off.

“This is a big stepping stone to getting back to where I’ve been. It would have been easy to walk away but I love what I do.”

Greene, 32, pipped Jack Green, winning in 50.06sec, to book his place in the Great Britain team for the European Championships, which he won in Barcelona eight years ago. He added: “The last two Olympic champions have been older than I am now so, as long as I’m still enjoying it, I’ll try and squeeze everything out of myself.”
