CUP-ROW REFEREE GETS THE NOD
AMERICA’S Mark Geiger will be in charge of England’s last-16 showdown with Colombia.
The MLS referee was the subject of a complaint by Panama after a CONCACAF Gold Cup semi-final defeat by Mexico in 2015.
They claimed they had a player wrongly sent off by Geiger (right) and a penalty wrongly given against them. Their FA chief Pedro Chaluja said: “We feel that game was fixed.”
CONCACAF president Alfredo Hawit accepted Geiger had blundered but added: “Such human errors are part of the game.”
