CHEERING THREE LIONS ON THE ROAD TO VICTORY

We’re 3rd faves and might play Russia in semi

-

RUSSIA enjoyed the mother of all parties last night to celebrate an astonishing victory over Spain.

Spontaneous street parties broke out in Moscow as the host nation made it to the quarter finals – winning 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the Luzhniki Stadium.

Most Russians thought they would not get out of the group stages. Fan Oleg Kuzhntizin said: “We could have never have dreamt of this. This is a very special day.”

After Spain’s exit, bookies are now making England third favourites to win the World Cup.

Following the earlier departures of Germany, Argentina and Portugal, yesterday’s results will tempt Three Lions fans to dream of success.

But it could mean England meeting Russia in a very tense semi-final. Russia’s victory has booked them a quarter-final spot against Croatia, who beat Denmark on penalties last night. And the winner of that would face England in a semi-final. But all this depends on England beating Colombia tomorrow and then Sweden or Switzerland in the quarter-finals. Betfair have made England third favourite to win the cup at 6/1 behind France and Brazil both on 7/2.
