HARRY UP FOR THE CUP

-

HARRY ANGEL could yet defend his July Cup crown at Newmarket on Saturday week after making a rapid recovery from the injury he suffered at Royal Ascot.

The fouryear-old sustained a cut leg when becoming unruly at the stalls at the start of the Diamond Jubilee Stakes.

He lost all chance after completely missing the break and beat only one rival home in the race won by Merchant Navy. But his trainer Clive Cox (above) reported yesterday: “It’s positive news — the first week has been better than we imagined possible. “He has trained well the last three days, and I’m pleased to say he has been back in the stalls as well.” “We’ve got 12 days to go and the jigsaw has to be fitting in the right places, but I never dreamed we could be as pleased as we have been in the last seven days.”
