RAF hero: I’ll sell medals to help my sons
A HERO RAF helicopter pilot is selling his bravery medals for £50,000 to pay for his two sons’ education.
Squadron Leader Alex “Frenchie” Duncan kept his Chinook flying despite being hit 34 times by Taliban rockets and bullets in Afghanistan in 2009.
He got the Distinguished Flying Cross for saving the lives of all 16 on board.
In 2011, he was awarded the Air Force Cross after flying in darkness during a battle to rescue an injured six-year-old child.
Oxford-based Sq Ldr Duncan, 42, said: “I thought long and hard about whether to sell my medals and do not do so lightly. I want my sons to use the funds to invest in their education.”
The auction will take place on July 18.
