MEL WINS BATTLE FOR CURTIS

- BY JAMES NURSEY

DERBY owner Mel Morris is celebrating after winning his tug of war with former boss Gary Rowett over Curtis Davies. Mirror Football can reveal Morris last week rejected a £1.5million bid from Stoke for the centre-half. Rowett wanted to take Davies (left) to relegated Stoke after defecting in June. But Morris was in regular contact with Davies, 33, all summer – phoning and emailing to convince him to stay. Now Davies has agreed a one-year extension and pay rise to join the Rams’ top earners on a deal until 2020. It is a boost for new boss Frank Lampard and ends speculation John Terry will arrive to join his old Chelsea pal at Pride Park.
