ALLI IN LINE FOR KNOCK-OUT BLOW

- FROM JOHN CROSS in Samara

GARETH SOUTHGATE admits he is thinking about a tactical change – and that could mean Dele Alli misses out against Sweden.

Southgate is concerned about the number of chances his midfield is creating and has told the players he is thinking of making a tweak.

Alli (right) suffered a thigh injury in the opening game with Tunisia which troubled him against Colombia.

He is also playing deeper than he does for Spurs and Southgate believes his best position could be further forward.

England trained with Eric Dier as the anchorman in midfield in the build-up which could push Jordan Henderson into Alli’s No.8 role against Sweden.

Boss Southgate said: “We had good controlled possession, but we do want to create more clear chances.

“That will be tough against Sweden because I think we’ll have more possession, but they have got results with 30 per cent possession.

“Dele’s performance against Tunisia was as good as he’s had since I’ve been England manager. He’s at his best making those forward runs and really threatening the opponents with those runs from midfield.”

Ashley Young is expected to play after recovering from an ankle knock while Jamie Vardy will have an injection on a groin injury in the hope he can make an impact from the bench.
