WAKE UP OR WE MISS OUT

-

Wakefield v Catalans 6.30pm BY GARETH WALKER WAKEFIELD back-rower Matty Ashurst knows today’s clash with improving Catalans could determine whether Trinity look up or down for the rest of the season.

The Dragons will move level on points with Wakefield and drag them right back into the scramble to avoid the bottom four if they can continue their recent good form.

But victory for the home side would just about keep them in touch with the top four as the Super League season heads for its split in four more matches.

Ashurst (above) said: “It is really tight and there’s a few teams having a crack at that top eight now. It’s big now – if we’re serious about having a crack at this top four we’ve got to pick up two or three wins in these last few games.

“We’re coming off the back of a loss at Saints last week, but I think there’s a lot we can take out of the game.”

Ashurst is impressed with Catalans playmaker Josh Drinkwater, who has played a key part in their revival.

He added: “They’re playing really well at the minute, they’re in really good form.

“They’re a big set, a physical team and Drinkwater seems to be guiding them round the park well.

“They’ve picked up a few wins recently so we know it’s going to be a tough game.

“We need to start better – the last couple of games we let teams get in front and have been playing catch up.”
