Three winning tactics to kick the morning-after feeling

-

GOT a hangover today? Here are three top ways to fix the fug and get back to normal...

Drinking alcohol stops the body from creating a chemical called vasopressin, which means your kidneys send water straight to your bladder instead of absorbing into the body.

Research shows drinking Sprite works well. Its lemon and lime juice content is alkaline and will help balance the acid in your gut, quelling feelings of nausea. Fizzy water with a squeeze of fresh lemon is a healthier option and will rehydrate you too.

Opt for a paracetamol-based remedy or ibuprofen lysine. The latter absorbs quicker and the ones with codeine (found in “plus” brands) are like taking two painkillers at once, experts say. But avoid aspirin as it can further irritate the stomach and increase feelings of sickness.

Experts say a bland breakfast restores blood sugar levels and doesn’t make stomach problems worse, as a fry-up can.

Crackers, toast or a thin vegetable broth are options recommended by the NHS. Alcohol can also deplete your potassium levels so a banana or two will make you feel better.
