Three reasons for Abbie to celebrate in cancer battle
AN aspiring doctor who refused chemo to save her unborn baby is celebrating becoming a mum, fighting back against cancer and getting top marks in exams.
Abbie Colvin was diagnosed with cervical cancer, aged 19, before learning she was pregnant.
Now 20, she said: “Unless it was going to kill me, then I was going to have this baby.” She and partner Oakley Buchanan, 21, welcomed Oscar in December. She started chemo two weeks later but kept up with her biomedical science studies at Manchester Metropolitan University. Now she has transferred to a sevenyear course including a medicine PhD. Abbie is also set for more chemo, but if her scans are not clear she will need a hysterectomy. Abbie, of Poulton, Lancs, said: “If I’m not able to have any more children I don’t mind, I have Oscar.”
