JONATHAN Dimbleby has said his older brother David will be “enormously missed” as he steps down from Question Time after 25 years.

David, 79, is leaving the BBC’s flagship political debate show later this year and the search is on for his successor.

Jonathan, 73, said he would be a difficult act to follow, telling the Mirror: “Someone quoted that he is someone with whom people want to spend time. Whether they like the panellists, don’t like the panellists or whether they’re frustrated by the debate, they think David Dimbleby is there and people like that. As a viewer, I will miss him.”

Speaking at the Intelligence Squared talk in London, Jonathan also said his brother would keep working, adding: “He is not someone who sits down.” Newsnight stalwart Kirsty Wark is 6/4 favourite to take over on Question Time, with Emily Maitlis and Nicky Campbell priced at 10/1. Asked if it is time for a woman to be at the helm, Any Questions? host Jonathan said: “There are lots of extremely good women at the BBC. I am a fan of quite a lot of the people whose names have been mentioned.”
