YOU’VE AD IT IF YOU TRY TO BULLY A NEWSPAPER

-

BANNED Christopher Stoddard A caravan park chain tried to persuade one of the Mirror’s sister papers to hush-up the fact that it had failed to pay staff the National Minimum Wage.

Lyons Holiday Parks told the Daily Post that it was a major advertiser and asked it not to write about underpaid staff at its Oakfield Caravan Park near Rhyl in North Wales.

It was among 179 firms named by the Department for Business earlier this year for breaking minimum wage rules – it had failed to pay two workers £5,903 in 2016. When the company was asked by the Post for a comment it replied: “I would kindly ask, based on the amount of money we spend with you guys, that Oakfield is not published on that list.” I’m pleased to say that the request was ignored.
