PICK-UP PRICE LOOKS GOOD
Jaguar will use this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed to launch its new F-Pace SVR. The SVR version of Jag’s top-selling F-Pace is powered by JLR’s familiar 5.0-litre supercharged V8 which, in this hot SUV, produces 550bhp. It’s the same engine that’s being used in the limited-run XE Project 8 saloon, although in that car the motor produces 600bhp.
The most impressive Jag that I’ve driven in years, the electric I-Pace, will also be on Jaguar’s stand at Goodwood. The recently tested Mercedes-Benz X-Class is a rather cool machine, almost the limo of pick-ups, but at over £30k a pop you wouldn’t want to put it through any seriously challenging environments, such as a muddy building site. If you need a pick-up for serious graft then the new SsangYong Musso might be the answer. For starters, the price undercuts most rivals at £19,995 excluding VAT.
Built on the same ladder frame platform as SsangYong’s Rexton SUV, the Musso pick-up has a 1-tonne payload and a towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes.
It’s powered by a 180bhp 2.2-litre diesel engine that drives through a standard manual gearbox or an optional 6-speed automatic to all four wheels.
The Musso starts with the EX, then climbs through Rebel and Saracen trims to the range-topping Rhino.
On top of a competitive price it comes with a sevenyear/150,000-mile warranty.
