Aldi’s corking win as wine seller of year
ALDI has been crowned wine retailer of the year, seeing off rivals M&S and Waitrose.
The budget supermarket wowed judges at the International Wine Challenge with its Château De Myrat Sauternes, priced at just £11.99 a bottle.
It is a Grand Cru class of Bordeaux wines that dates back to Napolean.
Aldi has won more than 100 international awards for wine including a prize for a £11 Veuve Monsigny Brut champagne.
Tesco’s own label Finest Premier Cru Champagne NV at £19 a bottle was named Great Value Champion Sparkling 2018.
Charles Metcalfe, of the Challenge, said: “Gone is supermarket snobbery.”
