Far-right thugs attack union boss
BLOOD Steve Hedley after assault A UNION chief was left bloodied and needing six stitches following an attack by far-right thugs backing Donald Trump’s visit.
RMT senior assistant general secretary Steve Hedley, 49, was targeted as violence flared in London on Saturday.
He had spoken at a counter-protest to a rally in support of the US President and jailed far-right activist and former EDL leader Tommy Robinson. Mr Hedley was attacked an hour later as he enjoyed a drink outside the Westminster Arms, near Parliament.
He said a gang arrived chanting “EDL”, adding: “The next thing was a hail of glasses – I got hit in the face. There were chairs being thrown, there were road cones, they then charged across the road and started to attack us. It was a terrible experience.
“I was taken to hospital. I’ve got stitches under my eye and superficial glass wounds to my head and ear, where I was hit by the glass. It must have shattered.”
Police said 12 people had been arrested as part of the demos.
