MILAN MANDARIC is advising a consortium about a potential takeover of Aston Villa. Villa’s embattled Chinese owner Dr Tony Xia is facing a huge financial blackhole following costly defeat in the Championship play-off final. The crisis has put ex-Leicester, Portsmouth and Sheffield Wednesday owner Mandaric (above) on red alert. He is concentrating on his Slovenian club NK Olimpija Ljubljana – for now. Tycoon Mandaric, 79, told Mirror Sport: “Aston Villa is an historic big English club. There is a group who know me quite well and have asked for my advice. I have commitments to fulfil before any other projects.”
