PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK

BBC2, 9pm

Last we saw of the Valentine’s Day picnic at Hanging Rock, some of the girls had completely vanished, with the rest of the group left hysterical.

Now it’s the next day and a search is underway for the three star pupils, Irma, Marion and Miranda, and governess Miss McGraw.

“Some of your companions have managed to lose themselves,” says Hester Appleyard, played by the scenestealing Natalie Dormer. “Close every window. Lock every door,” she adds, not wanting anyone to know what’s actually happened.

With Edith recovering, she is interrogated as a witness, but doesn’t provide any useful clue.

“My tummy hurt, I went to sleep,” she recalls.

Could it have been a prank gone wrong? Is someone dangerous lurking at Hanging Rock? Or is there truth in the claim the place is haunted?

The eerie, supernatural feel to this drama ramps up a notch as the search party faces a dark night at the beauty spot.
