Gerrard: Gers must be better
STEVEN GERRARD warned his players that they will “have to improve” despite winning his first European tie as Rangers manager.
The ex-Liverpool and England captain saw his new team complete the job in the Europa League first qualifying round last night against Macedonia’s FK Shkupi, adding a goalless draw to last week’s 2-0 home win.
He said: “We are pleased with some things and disappointed in others.
“I thought we were aggressive and I am pleased with the clean sheet.
“Allan McGregor and the two centre-backs were outstanding – I think they got one real chance late-on.
“I am disappointed with us in possession for the first 30 minutes as I don’t think we passed the ball or retained it well enough.
“And, throughout the game, there was a serious lack of quality in the final third. There is definitely a base and a shape and a platform for us to build on.
“There are certain things I am happy with, but we have to improve.”
Rangers now play the winner of tomorrow night’s game between Petrocub of Moldova or Osijek of Croatia, who drew the first leg 1-1.
