GARDENERS’ WORLD BBC2, 8pm

The gardens at Highgrove – Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall’s private residence – used to be an overgrown and neglected mess.

But Prince Charles did not call an emergency gardening team – he saw it as a challenge. He has spent nearly 40 years personally transforming them into some of the most creative and innovative gardens in the UK.

Credentials all checked out, we now understand what a thrill it must have been for the Gardeners’ World team to receive a royal invite.

Presenter Adam Frost explains: “I was invited to a meeting at Highgrove with members from across the horticultural industry to discuss the problem of pests and diseases. The Prince wanted to explain why we as gardeners need to do our bit.”

So tune in to this special episode that sees Adam interview Prince Charles, who talks about his love of gardens and how to protect our iconic oak tree.
