Railman fired over a break

-

A RAIL signalman was sacked for taking a break he was legally entitled to.

Peter Lee, who has been in the job for 44 years, was closing his signal box after working for six hours when bosses sent him home.

He fought for eight years for the 20-minute breaks and said he gave bosses four days to organise cover at Arundel, West Sussex.

Mr Lee, 60, whose union RMT is balloting for strike action, said: “They have taken everything from me.”

Network Rail claimed his action was in rush hour and staff had agreed not to cause major disruption.
