ZLATAN: POGBA WILL IMPROVE AND JOIN THE GREATS

- FROM DAVID McDONNELL in Phoenix

ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC has backed former Manchester United team-mate Paul Pogba to go “above the stars” after his World Cup success with France.

Ibrahimovic suggested Pogba (right) has the capacity to elevate his game to a higher level and be considered a true star of world football, among the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“You have the players that are above the stars,” said Ibrahimovic, now playing for LA Galaxy. “I don’t find him there yet. He is a fantastic player and can become the one above the stars. He has more to give.

“He can develop. He can do more. But he is still young. He won probably more on the big stage than the people who are judging him.”

Pogba, 25, won four Serie A titles with Juventus, as well as the League Cup and Europa League with United. He lost the Champions League Final to Barcelona at Juve and was part of the France team that finished runners-up to Portugal at Euro 2016. “Paul has played in a Champions League Final,” added Ibrahimovic. “And a European final with the national team.

“He just won the World Cup. Europa League Final. He won many titles in Italy, and a couple with United. He also won many youth trophies. What more do you want?”
