Cancer dad suicide over £70k debts
A CANCER patient killed himself after racking up £70,000 in debts and living without heating and water.
Nigel Hurst, 56, left a suicide note saying death would be a “huge relief ”.
His family only learned of his debt when they found an eviction note at his home after his death, when they also discovered his living conditions.
The dad of two declared himself bankrupt in 2015, £9,000 in council tax debt.
When a court appointed BDO UK to collect the debt, the total is believed to have reached £15,000.
He also had loans. Bailiffs found his body when they tried to repossess his house in South Lakeland, Cumbria, in October.
BDO UK said: “BDO have waived entitlement to be paid all their fees.”
