Bus driver axed after failing breathalyser at start of shift
A NATIONAL Express driver was sacked after turning up to start a shift up to three times over the limit.
The coach, due to travel from Cambridge to Stansted Airport, locked itself down after the unnamed employee failed a built-in breathalyser test in May.
National Express would not confirm how much the driver had drunk but said he was fired immediately. Passengers had to wait for another bus, causing a delay of over an hour. Some missed flights. National Express said its coaches are fitted with Alcolock technology, which only allows a vehicle to be started if the driver passes a breathalyser test set at a level below the legal limit. A spokeswoman added: “Safety is our number one priority. We pride ourselves on our high standards.”
