Bacon: It was like bird flu in both lungs
EX-Blue Peter presenter Richard Bacon has told about the mystery bug which nearly killed him.
His most shocking moment was when a doctor said unless he was put into an induced coma “he’d probably die”.
He said the infection, which struck on a flight to the UK, “was like having bird flu in both lungs”.
Married Richard, 42, added: “I came quite close to death. After two nights, the infection was winning and my lungs were losing.”
He has now recovered but told BBC Radio 4: “We’ll never know what the infection was.”
The dad-of-two, who works in the US, woke from his coma nine days ago and thanked staff at Lewisham Hospital, South London.
