Women ‘still suffer violence & harassment in workplace’

- BY ALAN JONES

WOMEN continue to suffer violence and harassment at work as their rights are put at risk by Brexit, a study found.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission review discovered numerous “failures” and stressed the importance of ensuring rights are not watered down as Britain quits the EU.

EHRC boss Rebecca Hilsenrath said: “The priority must now be ensuring that women and girls of all ages can enjoy their basic right to feel safe in their everyday lives. “It is estimated that only 15% of survivors of sexual violence report their experience to the police, and social movements such as #MeToo shine a spotlight on areas where women are being failed.” The EHRC recommends a statutory code of practice on sexual harassment at work and reforms to benefit payments.
