ARSENAL’S DELIGHT AT IWOBI DEAL

- FROM DAVID ANDERSON in Charlotte @MirrorAnderson BY ADRIAN KAJUMBA

ALEX IWOBI is on the verge of signing a new long-term Arsenal contract.

Iwobi has agreed terms on an improved deal after talks which have been ongoing since the end of last season. His previous deal, signed in 2015, ran until 2020. The Nigeria attacking midfielder (left), 22, is set to extend his stay until 2022 despite interest from Lazio, AC Milan and Everton. Having left some contract renewals too late in the past, Arsenal have got Mesut Ozil, Mohamed Elneny, Granit Xhaka, Calum Chambers, Rob Holding and Ainsley Maitland-Niles to sign fresh deals in 2018 and academy product Iwobi will be next.

But the future of Aaron Ramsey remains uncertain as he has now entered the final year of his contract.
