Surgery scandal

-

I assume those who decide to cancel hip and knee surgeries have never suffered the excruciating pain of waiting for an op (Mirror, July 19). If they had, they would not be so quick to turn people down. Some days I can’t put my foot down and am unable to walk until pain has subsided.

Without these operations, thousands will be crippled and left needing help, care in the home and medication, which all costs money. Why don’t they just let the surgeons get on with their work instead of employing panels to make decisions? M Harrison Widnes, Cheshire

Fantastic news for Sir Cliff Richard who won £210,000 in damages after a judge ruled the BBC had breached his privacy by naming him as a paedophile suspect (Mirror, July 19). He must be so relieved that this stressful period is over. Sir Cliff isn’t a nasty person and didn’t deserve all of this. The BBC was out of order. Janet Davies Falmouth, Cornwall
