PAUL, 61

Sales agent, Manchester

-

Self-employed Paul initially explained he had been put off smart meters after hearing rumours of inflated bills and concerns that your personal information could be hacked.

But after meeting with our energy experts he was pleasantly surprised to learn that there is no initial cost to the customer to have a smart meter installed and that he will now have access to exclusive moneysaving tariffs.

Specialists in cyber security have also explained the end-to-end network smart meters use is secure, and built to prevent any information from falling into the wrong hands.

Paul said: “This is a huge reassurance. I was also happy to hear none of my personal information will be stored on the smart meter – it will simply hold data relating to my energy usage.”

Paul was also pleased to discover that eventually all smart meters will be equipped with the technical ability to swap suppliers and stay smart.

He said: “This is a great step forward as the idea of continually needing to swap smart meters really put me off as I want the freedom to swap suppliers to ensure I’m on the best possible tariff for me.

“Knowing I can do this has convinced me smart meters are not only an inevitable way forward but also a real benefit to the consumer.

“As a country we need to adapt to change and advances in technology – very rarely is this a bad thing.

“So I will be embracing the future and looking forward to what it has to offer.”

I was happy to hear that no personal info will be stored on my new smart meter
