LOVE YOUR GARDEN ITV, 8pm

This is the ultimate in feel-good television as Alan Titchmarsh visits inspiring people to transform their lives with a new garden. “I believe that gardens have the power to heal,” he says. What’s not to love?

This opening episode packs an emotional punch as Alan and his team of green-fingered experts surprise 90-year-old Betty Hicks, who has been fundraising for over five decades, raising thousands. In 2016, she even abseiled down the 170m Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth Harbour.

The incredible feat raised money for macular degeneration – a gradual loss of eyesight that Betty herself suffers from.

And so to her garden, which is a green-free concrete box, off-limits even to this daredevil on account of its many levels and trip hazards.

The team sets about transforming it into a safe and sensory haven, with lots of vivid colours that she can still appreciate. And just wait until you see her reaction.
