Hollywood agent Malcolm explains it best. “The goal has always been ‘white famous’. Don’t you want to be so famous that you transcend colour? Obama, Tiger Woods, Will Smith...”

He’s scolding up-and-coming comic Floyd Mooney, who could be big, if only he would stop sabotaging himself.

Floyd (Jay Pharoah) has just had a run-in about race with one of the biggest producers in La La Land. He needs to accept his apology if he’s not going to “ride off into black obscurity”. This funny new series is based on the real life experiences of actor Jamie Foxx, the executive producer.

It’s packed with moments that make a point while making us laugh.

The agent points out to Floyd: “I’m not black, I’m Indian. You deal with police, I deal with airport security.”

Meanwhile, Floyd is mistaken for a restaurant valet – “I love black people,” insists the offending white guy.

Watch out for a scene with Jamie in a cheerleading skirt.
