1999: Lance Armstrong (above) won his first Tour de France. He won seven straight titles but was stripped of them all for doping.

2001: Welsh side Barry Town suffered an 8-0 thrashing at the hands of Porto in a Champions League qualifier.

2006: Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn appointed himself as manager, lasting five matches without a win.
