Massive lake found under Mars ice cap
A GIANT underground lake has been discovered on Mars, the first liquid water found on the planet.
Italian scientists analysed powerful radar images from the European Space Agency’s orbiting Mars Express spacecraft.
Hidden under a polar ice cap, the reservoir is more than 12 miles across and at least a mile deep.
Astronomers say it could allow humans to survive on the Red Planet.
Prof Alan Duffy, an astronomer at Swinburne University, Australia, said: “This stunning result suggests water on Mars is not a temporary trickle like previous discoveries.”
Experts are now considering if tiny organisms could live in the water.
RESEARCHERS have found evidence of water on Mars.
If United Utilities has anything to do with it, expect a hosepipe ban soon on the red planet.
