United in £65m approach for Foxes defender and the World Cup star believes he’ll kick off season at Old Trafford.. against Leicester

MANCHESTER UNITED have told Leicester they want £65millionrated England World Cup hero Harry Maguire.

And the Foxes defender is confident he will be on his way to Old Trafford before the transfer window closes – in time to line up against his current team on the season’s opening night of August 10. Leicester’s player of the season had an outstanding summer in Russia and is only

one year into a five-year deal after signing from Hull for £17m last summer.

Leicester are willing to make him one of the Foxes’ top earners on over £100,000 a week, but he will be tempted by a lucrative move to a club chasing major honours.

United and Manchester City were already tracking Maguire prior to his superb displays for England.

City boss Pep Guardiola even commended the 25-year-old defender on the pitch after he shone in a League Cup tie between the two clubs last season. And Jose Mourinho feels Maguire would be easier to purchase than Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld (right).
