Can’t buy me Golov
CHELSEA’S hopes of landing Russian World Cup star Aleksandr Golovin ended last night when the CSKA Moscow midfielder signed for Monaco.
The fee for the 22-year-old was not revealed but CSKA said it broke their club record.
Golovin, who had been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge since impressing at the World Cup, scored 13 goals in 113 appearances for CSKA.
“I am very happy to sign for Monaco,” Golovin said. “This is a new adventure for me that I approach with a lot of ambition. I am now very much looking forward to meeting the staff and my new team-mates and to get going.”
At the World Cup Golovin started four games and scored one goal as Russia made it through their group before knocking out 2010 world champions Spain in the last 16.
Monaco finished second to runaway champions Paris Saint-Germain in the French league last season.
