Bulldog’s wrestler boy vows to make sport a TV hit again

- BY MARK JEFFERIES

THE son of wrestling legend The British Bulldog has vowed to continue his dad’s legacy on TV and reckons the sport will again explode in popularity.

World of Sport wrestling returns to ITV today at 5pm after 33 years, with colourful fighters that bosses hope will become favourites.

Davey Boy Smith Jr, 32, said: “Wrestling can make a big comeback in the UK. There is a lot of good talent. It looks professional and there are lights and fireworks. The potential is huge and the sky’s the limit. “My father was a huge star in the UK and I want to carry on his legacy and win the title. It’s emotional that I’m following in his footsteps.” The British Bulldog, who made a name for himself in the US, died in 2002 at just 39 after fighting an addiction to painkillers.
