Ripp Orf is value for once
AN obvious place to hunt for clues in today’s Gigaset International at Ascot is the Victoria Cup, which is run in May.
Both are big-field seven-furlong handicaps and the Victoria Cup gives a huge pointer into the effect of the draw.
High numbers filled six of the first seven places that day — and the stands’ side was also the place to be on the straight course at the royal meeting.
The last time this afternoon’s contest was run on fast ground, high draws were first and second so — unless the weather police start causing mischief — we need to look for horses from stall 14 and upwards.
Draw aside, our likely hero must also tick these boxes:
Ran within the last five weeks.
Previously raced at Ascot.
A seven-furlong winner aged no older than five.
Carrying 8st 8lb or more.
After the numbercrunching we are left with this year’s Victoria Cup winner RIPP ORF (2pts win at 11-1 in places) and fifth VIA
SERENDIPITY (2pts each-way at 22-1 with Ladbrokes).
Ripp Orf ran a stormer in a fast time under Hayley Turner at Newmarket last week, while Via Serendipity is weighted to get closer to him than in May.
