Townsend Zaha plea
Despite years of decline, the Black Cats have sold season tickets in League One and new players promise a brighter future
ANDROS TOWNSEND has warned it is vital that Crystal Palace hang on to talisman Wilfried Zaha.
A brilliant two-goal display in the 4-0 friendly win over Reading showed why the £65million-rated forward is coveted by the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City.
Former England winger Townsend acknowledged Zaha’s importance to Palace. He said: “It’s no secret, our record with and without Wilf last season.
“He’s a top player and we are thankful to have him at the club – and hope that continues for a long time.”
Zaha, who had some superb performances last term as the Eagles survived despite losing their first seven league games without scoring, was forced to deny he was headed out of Selhurt Park following a cryptic Instagram message posted last week.
