Stillbirth plea to baby units

ABOUT 600 stillbirths a year could be prevented if all maternity units adopted life-saving guidelines, NHS England says.

In units which followed them more than 160 babies were saved over two years.

Guidelines include efforts to cut smoking in pregnancy, better monitoring of a baby’s growth and movement in pregnancy, and during labour.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said: “These results demonstrate really positive progress.”
