Brit hikers in quake scare

SIX British hikers are believed to have descended safely from a volcano that was hit by an earthquake.

Hundreds of tourists were on 12,224ft Mt Rinjani when the 6.4-magnitude tremor hit Lombok in Indonesian, killing 16 people and injuring more than 160.

The six are thought to have told officials they have returned safely to the base but other hikers may have gone unreported.

The Foreign Office last night said: “We are monitoring the situation.”
