Family’s tributes to girl, 6, killed by car

THE grief-stricken dad of a girl who died after being hit by a car while crossing the road with him has led heartbreak­ing tributes to her.

Six-year-old Jannatul Bakya died in the collision in Smethwick, West Mids, at around 10.50pm on Saturday.

She was with her father heading to prayers at a local mosque and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her devastated family have spoken of their grief at losing their little girl.

Her dad said: “Jannatul, my youngest daughter, was always happy and cheerful.

“She always bought a smile to everybody’s face. She will be greatly missed.”

A man, aged 27, and a woman, of 26, both of Smethwick, were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and have been released. DC Damian Gibson said: “We are investigat­ing the circumstan­ces leading to this tragic event.

“We’re appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have CCTV which can help with our enquiries.”

He added that his thoughts were with Jannatul’s family “at this very sad time”.
