Six months banged up for crime he didn’t commit
A MAN has walked free from court after spending almost six months in jail for an alleged acid attack he did not commit.
A judge blasted the Crown Prosecution Service and the investigating officer over their handling of the case, including delays in producing medical evidence which was “devastating” for the prosecution.
Anthony Brack, 51, who had denied four offences against Lauren Lennard, could have been jailed for 12 years if convicted. Judge Stephen Everett told Liverpool GRIEF Daughter Katie Pitwell crown court: “What a terrible miscarriage of justice that would have been.” Mr Brack, from Toxteth, was arrested in February and kept segregated in jail for his protection. The case was listed for trial but the prosecution offered no evidence. The court heard that Ms Lennard, also from Toxteth, had alleged a second acid attack, by an ex-boyfriend. She had made allegations against other people, including assaults, which did not proceed due to inconsistencies or insufficient evidence.
