500m-to-one twins of mum with 2 wombs
RARE Jennifer & her twins A WOMAN has given birth to twins she carried separately in her two wombs.
Mum Jennifer Ashwood only found out she had a rare “heart-shaped” uterus in a scan while expecting twins Poppy and Piran.
Doctors told her and partner Andrew House one egg had been released into each uterus and both were fertilised at the same time, in a one-in-fivehundred million chance.
The twins, born at 34 weeks, are now home.
Care co-ordinator Jennifer, of Camborne, Cornwall, said: “You think you know your body well, but it turns out you might not.”
Jennifer, 31 – also mum to eight-year-old Millie – has a complete bicornuate uterus. Most pregnancies in those with the condition involve just one womb.
