Dench & Palin Tyke top spot with voters
THE greatest-ever folk from Yorkshire are Dame Judi Dench and Monty Python star Michael Palin.
They topped a poll to find its favourite people.
Almost half the 2,000 quizzed named film star Dench, 83, the greatest Yorkshirewoman. Nearly one in three picked funnyman Palin, 72, as greatest Yorkshireman.
Actors Sean Bean and Sir Patrick Stewart were second and third in the men. Dame Jessica EnnisHill came second in the female list followed by the Bronte sisters.
The study by npower marks Yorkshire Day today.
Andy Wiggans, commercial director of the energy giant, said: “Yorkshire Day is a reason to celebrate everything brilliant about the UK’s biggest county.”
