Failed Carillion dumps its last 341 apprentices
CRASHED construction giant Carillion has “dumped” its last 341 apprentices in a move branded “crass stupidity”.
The decision came as Parliament went into recess, preventing MPs from raising their concerns. Gail Cartmail, of Unite, said: “This is an appalling way to treat these apprentices.”
“To dump them and to destroy their training is an act of crass stupidity.”
Young workers who have still not found new placements will have their pay stopped at the end of August. They were left stranded when Carillion collapsed with £1.5billion debts.
A Department for Education spokeswoman said “employment, with wages” was found for 777 apprentices.
