Irons now after Liga goals ace
MANUEL PELLEGRINI says West Ham are not finished in the transfer market – despite already splashing out £100million.
The Chilean has had a £27million bid for Uruguay striker Maxi Gomez turned down, with his club Celta Vigo wanting a £35million release clause met.
Gomez, 21, hit 17 La Liga goals in 35 starts last season after signing from Defensor Sporting.
Although he now has a £35m release clause, West Ham are hoping they can strike a compromise.
Pellegrini said: “We are working very hard to be sure that we have the squad we need for the Premier League.
“We want to make sure we don’t make a mistake in the make-up of the squad.”
To finance the Gomez deal, the Irons – who also want another midfielder – are set to stage a clearout.
Sam Byram, Cheikhou Kouyate, Michail Antonio, Edimilson Fernandes and Reece Oxford could all be heading for the exit.
