‘MOUNT IS RISING TO VERY TOP’
CHELSEA starlet Mason Mount has a platform at Derby to push for a full England call-up, according to Frank Lampard. New Rams boss Lampard has taken the exciting 19-year-old midfielder on a season-long loan. England Under-19 star Mount impressed last term while he was farmed out to Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem, where he scored nine goals. He then trained with England’s senior side before Gareth Southgate and his assistant Steve Holland took the squad to Russia for the World Cup finals. Lampard said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Mason to really show the world, and England, what he can do in the Championship. “England are aware of him. I know Steve Holland pretty well from Chelsea, he tells me Mason is on the radar, and so now it’s up to him. “This is why this is such a good platform for him because we are always crying out in England for talented midfielders that can link play, are intelligent and score goals. “Mason can have a big future. He can offer Derby a lot and we can offer Mason a lot as well. “At this club he’s going to get the pressure of 30,000 people at home games and travelling round in a difficult Championship, so that’s great grounding and work for him. “What he can bring us is good quality and energy. “We’ve seen it from the moment he walked through the door. “He did it at Vitesse last year, which was great. “I knew him from the Chelsea youth team, an energetic midfield player, with good quality on the ball who can get in the box and score goals. “And I know that Mason has the right mentality, which is another one of his massive strengths.”
